Ty Isaac recruiting article- appears to be done with visits for now

Isaac spoke to a Chicago website and had some very interesting quotes:

"I took unofficial visits in March, when it worked out for my parents," he said. "Now my visits are out of the way. Nothing else is planned now. To be honest, I don't know if I will visit any more schools. Some have asked me to visit. But if I don't have any interest, I don't want to waste either side's time. If the schools I have visited, I'd be perfectly fine to go to either one of them."

However, he is sure of one thing at the moment. "I'm not a fan of the recruiting process at all. When I started, like everybody, I was excited. After you get the first couple of offers, you know you will have an opportunity to play at the next level. But now it gets overwhelming. It feels like it never stops," he said.

MSU Spring Game- Per Matt Dorsey, Laquon Treadwell DID NOT make it in

MSU not thought to be a big competitor, but still nice to see.

MSU Spring Game- Michigan recruiting targets

Laquon Treadwell is expected in to MSU's Spring Game.

So is Matt Miller, an Ohio OL/DL who is the younger brother of Michigan freshman Jack Miller.

Kenton Gibbs is also expected in.

Ty Isaac thoughts

Sounds like he might be visiting USC again next month. If he does, then I think USC is his likely destination.

Wednesday, April 25, 2012

Rough List of remaining targets

RB- 4/5* Isaac, maybe 4* Green

DL- 3/4* Lacouture, 4* Poggi, 4* Teller, 4* Bower, 4* Muhammad,3/4* Augusta

WR- 4* Treadwell, 4* Allen, 4* Ateman, 4* Massington, 4* Larue, and then the new WR offered today.

DB- 5* Fuller.

Thoughts on OSU's recruiting

So OSU just landed 5 star DE Joey Bosa, and 3 star DE/LB Lewis Neal. They now have 13 commitments. From what I have read on OSU boards, they are expected to go to 20 or so. Some random thoughts: 1- This is all rough estimation, but they have 6 consensus top 100 types with Bosa and Anzalone committing. I would say Michigan has 5 or 6. Pretty similar, though I would say OSU has the advantage with more 5 star types (Burrows, Bosa, and Marshall). 2- OSU has 11 4/5 stars on Rivals, 10 on Scout, and 9 on 247. Neal and Sprinkle are 3 star prospects on all 3 sites. Right now, I would say Michigan looks better if you are just going by 4 star depth throughout the class (Michigan has 15 4/5 stars out of 17 commitments on Scout and 247, 13 on Rivals). 3- OSU has six commitments from Ohio kids, 7 from out of state. Michigan has eight Ohio commitments. Just something to note. 4- So far OSU really seems to be cleaning up on defense. They have a great secondary lined up, and combined with last year their DL class is second to none. 5- What is kind of surprising so far is the relative lack of WR's in the 2 classes. 6- The one weakness in OSU's class I see right now is at OL. Urban salvaged things pretty well last year with Dodson and Decker, but right now their only OL commitment is from 4 star Evan Lisle. Pocic is just a must get for them. OL is Hoke's clearest advantage over Meyer right now IMO. 7- So OSU only has 6-7 spots left if OSU fans are to be believed. It will be interesting to see who Urban targets now.

247 NLA Pitt updates- Shane Morris and Jourdan Lewis

Shane Morris is really sharp to start day two. Nice catches by Jourdan Lewis and Brandon Bean. Shane morris is starting to heat up. Looking good so far this morning in cold temperatures. Link

Saturday, April 21, 2012

One time Michigan target Alex Anzalone has committed to OSU

Consensus 4 star Pa. LB. Michigan told him not to visit after getting a commitment from Mike McCray.

NLA Pitt updates- Shane Morris and Jourdan Lewis

From 247: Michigan commit Shane Morris has had several nice throws and Wolverines CB commit Jourdan Lewis has been strong in coverage. Link

Who could commit next? Maybe Henri Poggi?

He has gone dark for a while, but when he did comment (soon after his latest UM visit), he said he could decide by the end of this month. I know he wanted to take some visits- if he has taken those, I could see him committing soon. I think Scout believes it is UM or OSU, and I haven't read anything to indicate OSU is confident or that he is visiting there anytime soon. Just a hunch.

On Levenberry

I think it is FSU. I believe Michigan had a window of opportunity when FSU appeared to be backing away, but I believe the week long visit he went on to FSU tipped the scales. The good news is Michigan is stacked at LB.

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

E.J. Levenberry officially down to Michigan and FSU

Seems 50/50. No real feel on where he will go, but if I had to guess I would guess FSU.

David Dawson visited by USC per twitter..

Probably nothing to worry about since he is a Cass Tech kid, but something to keep an eye on.

Logan Tuley-Tillman went from #83 to #82

Taco Charlton went from #87 to #86

Wyatt Shallman is now out of the top 247.

One time Michigan target Shane Jones to MSU

Ohio LB. 3/4 star prospect with a good offer list. Obviously Michigan is no longer in play with the McCray and Gedeon commitments, but a nice get for MSU.

Saturday, April 14, 2012

Friday, April 13, 2012

Ty Isaac to the Under Armour All American game

If he commits to Michigan, that would be 6 commitments playing at the UA game.

Spring Game- Treadwell confirmed

Not on commitment watch or anything, but still a great sign.

Spring Game- Laquon Treadwell might be coming in

No decision would be expected, but always a positive to get a guy like Treadwell on campus as much as possible.

Thursday, April 12, 2012

Spring Game Visitors- Levenberry, Bosa, and more

The big Spring Game visit weekend does not look nearly as big as it once did. Still, there are a handful of big time visitors on hand:

E.J Levenberry- The Va. LB will be in town with his family. This might be Michigan's best chance to re-take the lead. Honestly, if Levenberry does not commit on his visit or soon after, I think he heads to FSU.

Joey Bosa- 5 star Florida DE. Michigan is probably a long shot.

Kendall Fuller- 5 star Va. corner back. Probably a VT lock.

Christian Lacouture- 3/4 star Texas DT. LSU leading, but Michigan might be able to make a move.

Malik McDowell- Likely 5 star 2014 DE. Could possibly be on commitment watch.

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

OSU offers 3 star Ohio Safety Christopher Worley. Giving up on Dymonte Thomas?

Worley is a 3 star prospect, and would give OSU 2 safety's in the class. Who knows for sure, but to me this is a possible sign Urban is giving up on flipping Dymonte Thomas.

Tuesday, April 10, 2012

Ben Gedeon Commitment Profile

Essentials: Ohio LB. Offered last summer by Michigan. OSU has also offered. Brady Hoke's second head to head victory over Urban Meyer in Ohio.

Offers: OSU, Stanford, MSU

Rankings:

Rivals- 4 star, #224 overall

Scout- 4 star, #159 overall

247- 4 star, #171 overall

Ben Gedeon has committed to Michigan!!

Essentials: Ohio LB. Offered last summer by Michigan. OSU has also offered. From all indications very high on Michigan's board.

Offers: OSU, Stanford, MSU

Rankings:

Rivals- 4 star, #224 overall

Scout- 4 star, #159 overall

247- 4 star, not in the top 247

Great get for Michigan

Kyle Bosch invited to the Under Armour Game

He was previously invited to the Marine Game. If he accepts the Under Armour invite, that would give Michigan 6 commitments.

Possible Upcoming Commitments- Ben Gedeon, Ty Isaac, and Henri Poggi

Ben Gedeon

Michigan is his clear leader. Some reports he visited Stanford last weekend, which could be the final hurdle before choosing Michigan. Not scheduled to attend the Spring Game but in my opinion a commitment could come at any time.

Ty Isaac

Michigan probably leading, though he had a very good USC visit. The key here is if Isaac decides before the Fall. He is very unlikely to visit USC on his own dime again, and so a paid official visit to take his Mother to California would have to be in the Fall. If Michigan can get him to campus again soon, I think a commitment is possible.

Henri Poggi

Michigan is probably leading. Poggi has talked about making a Spring decision- which would be good news for Michigan.

-I thought about including E.J. Levenberry, but I am starting to get skeptical that he will decide soon and will decide on Michigan. Hopefully he has a great Spring Game visit and Michigan makes a move.

Monday, April 9, 2012

Target Profile- Laquon Treadwell

Essentials: Illinois WR. Consensus top 100 player. Almost committed to Michigan last Fall- Michigan was his first offer. Now seems happy to let things play out as he keeps adding more offers.

Offers: OSU, Oklahoma, ND, others.

Rankings:

Rivals- 4 star, #31 overall

Scout- 4 star, #76 overall

247- 4 star, #80 overall

Bottom line- Michigan has as good a shot as anyone, but this has the feel of a long drawn out recruitment.

Adidas Invitational- Rivals Top Offensive Performers- Morris #1, Dawson #2

Great day for Michigan commitments

Link

Adidas Invitational- Rivals Top Defensive Performers- Jourdan Lewis comes in at #2

Lewis could have earned top performers on offense or defense. He ran equal reps at cornerback and wide receiver, locking down receivers on defense and making several spectacular grabs at wide receiver. Lewis is committed to Michigan to play cornerback, and he backed up his four-star rating with his performance on that side of the ball. As a wide receiver, though, Lewis is so quick in and out of his breaks and showed surprising strength for a 5-10, 165-pounder when he battled with defensive backs.

Kenton Gibbs also showed well.

CBS Summary of the Adidas Invitational- great quotes from Morris, Mathis, and more

A few quotes:

Morris:

"We're going to be number one," Morris said. "We should have the number one class in the nation, especially with some commits that we should get soon and the ones we're going to get at the end. There's no reason we shouldn't be number one unless somebody wants to under-rank our players to keep us from the top."

Mathis:

"I was going to (commit) but I said that would be selfish because I didn't see other schools," he said. "Michigan is number one on my list. I don't have a top five, it's Michigan and that's it. I did have a top five with USC but I was like, that's selfish of me because I didn't see other schools. Coming out here, my mom was saying it was going to be too cold out here but this is me. I love the coaches and this is me out here."

2014 OT Andy Bauer to Missouri

After visiting Michigan, OSU and elsewhere, Bauer made an early commitment to Missouri.

NJ cornerback Tre Bell to Florida

Michigan had offered, but Bell had yet to visit Michigan.

Adidas Invitational- Michigan commitments draw raves from 247

Michigan with the #2 (Jourdan Lewis), #3 (Shane Morris), and #4 performer (David Dawson) today.

Jourdan Lewis especially seemed to have really turned some heads, and interestingly enough excelled at WR.

Per 247, Joe Mathis names Michigan as his leader

Adidas Invitational Updates- Updated throughout the day

From 247:

Detroit Cass Tech OG and Michigan commit David Dawson looks to be in great shape. Down to 280. He said he has been working real hard.

2:00 PM Update- Looks like Mathis, 2014 stud Malik McDowell and Cass Tech DL Kenton Gibbs have been impressive on the DL, with David Dawson doing very well on the OL in 1on1's.

Summary- Shane Morris, David Dawson, and especially Jourdan Lewis were all very impressive.

Friday, April 6, 2012

Adidas Invitational Tomorrow- Michigan commitments looking to impress

Michigan commitments Shane Morris, Khalid Hill, David Dawson, Jourdan Lewis, and Wyatt Shallman will be in attendance tomorrow in Ann Arbor.

CA DE Joe Mathis will also be in attendance.

This event will be a great opportunity for Michigan commitments to maintain, or even improve their already high rankings.

Target Profile- Henri Poggi

Essentials: Maryland DT. Will probably play the "3-tech". Consensus 4 star. Michigan's most realistic DT option. Has visited Michigan 3 times- Michigan is thought to be leading. Could decide this Spring/Summer.

Offers: Alabama, OSU, Tennessee, others.

Rankings:

Rivals- 4 star, #43 overall

Scout- 54 star, #144 overall

247- 4 star, #102 overall

Bottom Line: Michigan is probably leading with OSU possibly the biggest competition. I think Michigan has a very good shot at Poggi.

Greg Webb has committed to PSU

Nice land for PSU, who is really doing well under O'Brien.

Greg Webb NJ DT- More hints he is about to drop for PSU

Check out Mike Farrell's twitter page.

Link

Target Profile- E.J. Levenberry

Essentials: LB from Virginia. Offered by Michigan very early on. Was thought to be a 5 star candidate and is at that level by Rivals, but 247 has dropped him significantly. Michigan is his stated leader, but I have a feeling he stays in the South (check out my Unverified Opinion)

Offers: OSU, FSU, Florida, Oklahoma, Alabama.

Rankings:

Rivals- 4 star, #15 overall

Scout- 4 star, #80 overall

247- 4 star, #232 overall

Bottom Line: Michigan leads, but he is visiting FSU right now. Some earlier talk that he could commit to UM at the Spring Game. If he decides early, probably good for Michigan. If not, I think he ends up elsewhere.

E.J. Levenberry- Unverified Opinion

The 4 star LB is currently visiting FSU with his parents. He is then scheduled to visit Michigan for the Spring Game. Michigan is his public leader.

And yet- I have a feeling he does not choose Michigan. Why? No real reason. Just get the vibe that he is holding out for a Southern school and that if FSU makes a big push they will land him.

We'll see...

Wednesday, April 4, 2012

Ross Douglass, current PSU commitment, offered by Michigan..

Per pay sites and his own twitter. Also per his twitter, UM offered a month ago.

Devin Butler to Notre Dame

Cornerback prospect with a UM offer.

NJ DT Greg Webb to PSU?

First hinted at by Rivals yesterday, seemingly more hints from 247.

Webb is a consensus 4 star recruit who UM, OSU, and MSU are all after hard.

Would be a great get for PSU.

Tuesday, April 3, 2012

Virginia DL Wyatt Teller visiting Michigan this Friday

Per Sam Webb's twitter.

Teller is a 4 star, #168 prospect on Rivals, a 3 star on Scout, and a 4 star, #207 overall on 247.

Army Game- McCray and Fox

Rivals is up with a (free) update on the Army game roster. Both Chris Fox and Mike McCray are included.

Update

Target Profile- Ben Gedeon

Essentials: Ohio LB. Offered last summer by Michigan. OSU has also offered. From all indications very high on Michigan's board.

Offers: OSU, Stanford, MSU

Rankings:

Rivals- 4 star, #224 overall

Scout- 4 star, #159 overall

247- 4 star, not in the top 247

Bottom Line: Michigan is thought to be the leader with OSU and maybe Stanford trailing. Might visit Stanford soon, but a decision could come at any time. I expect Gedeon to choose Michigan.

Best Guess Class- April 2012

This will be updated every month, hopefully, with a class projection and other possibilities.

Michigan has 17 commitments, and looks to take 22-25. For the purposes of this list, I am going to project Michigan with 7 more spots to fill.

Quarterback- 0.

Done.

Running back- 1 or 0.

Ty Isaac: Michigan is still thought to be in good position with Isaac, even after his visit to USC. If he visits UM again this Spring, we should be on commitment watch. If he starts talking about visiting USC again or waiting until the Fall, all bets are off. Odds- 70%

Other Possibilities- I think it is Isaac or bust.

Wide Receiver- 1 or 2.

Laquon Treadwell: Michigan was his early leader, and still looks strong, but right now he is talking about a late decision. Odds- 50%

Other Possibilities- A lot of other possibilities, including Devon Allen and Eldridge Massington.

Offensive Line- Done.

Tight End- Done.

Defensive Line- 2 (both defensive tackles)

Henri Poggi- Michigan might be leading, and he is looking to make a Spring/Summer decision.

Other possibilities- Not many. Greg Webb committed to PSU. Christian Lacouture has Michigan in his top 3. Look for an unheralded kid to possibly get an offer.

Linebacker- 1 or 2

E.L. Levenberry- Michigan and FSU officially tied, and a decision could come soon.

Secondary- 1

Michigan has a lot of possibilities, but no clear standout for this spot.

Summary

Well, right now the best guess list is 4 prospects. All are consensus 4-5 stars and would be great additions to the class.

UPDATED- 4/19/2012-

On Recruiting Sites

I will be using Rivals, Scout, and 247 when looking at recruiting rankings. ESPN's rankings frankly have never been good.

As far as premium information goes, my basic rule is this- if information becomes available in a non-premium setting, I will post it. If not, I won't.

Dymonte Thomas Commitment Profile

Essentials: Safety/RB prospect from Ohio. Committed on September 11, 2011, over offers from MSU and others. Later added an OSU offer. Top 3-5 prospect in the state of Ohio. Meyer is trying hard to flip him.

Offers: MSU, ND, OSU.

Rankings:

Rivals- 4 star, #77 overall.

Scout- 5 star, #35 overall.

247- 4 star, #41 overall.

Welcome and an Explanation

This is one of dozens of Michigan recruiting focused blogs out there. My own humble contribution will focus strictly on analysis of commitments and targets- i.e, how good a player is Player X considered, etc.

I will not be calling recruits. Period. End of story.

Hopefully, this blog will provide some perspective on Michigan commitments and on targets when they commit.

Welcome.
